Bottled vs. Tap Water in Santa Claus and Petersburg

Is your main or spare refrigerator chock-a-block with bottled water? Welcome to the club. But one you might want to consider resigning, at least after you finish reading this blog.

If you buy and stock bottled water in case of a power outage, that’s one thing. But if you buy and drink it at home and while traveling to make sure you’re always drinking pure, fresh water, then there’s a very good chance you’ve been misled and are fulfilling your purposed at all.

The following statistics will shed considerable light on the subject:

• 25% to 30% of bottled water comes from big city municipal tap water systems. It’s then filtered and bottled.
• Bottled water is subjected to less stringent and frequent testing than tap water.
• In fact, the Food and Drug Administration, which does not allow E. coli or fecal coliform in municipal water supplies, does not ban them from tap water.
• Municipal water companies also are required to disinfect their water supplies against such parasites as cryptosporidium or giardia. Once again, no such regulations apply to water bottling companies.

The fact is, most municipal water supplies are fit to drink. That doesn’t mean, however, that you shouldn’t have your water tested – well or municipal – just to play it safe. In fact, as water filtration experts, we encourage it.
