How to Determine if Your Water Pipes are Leaking

How to Determine if Your Water Pipes are Leaking

Unfortunately, some water pipe leaks can go unnoticed for quite some time. That’s especially true of water leaks hiding beneath your floors, inside the walls, or even outside your Loogootee home.  The longer water leaks go undetected, the greater the potential for damage.

To help prevent damage and conserve water at the same time, here are several things you can on your own:

  • Take a close look at your yard. Specifically, look for puddles in your yard when it hasn’t been raining or places near your home where the ground stays soft and damp.
  • Examine your floors. Look for warped floor boards, extra moisture beneath your carpet, or warm concrete, sure signs of a water leak.
  • Listen for running toilets or other water using appliances, like your hot water heater or your refrigerator.
  • If you suspect a leak, turn off each toilet and sink supply line. A leak may show itself when you turn the lines back on, one at a time.
  • Pay attention to your water bill. Watch for unusual increases that can’t be easily attributed to normal use.
  • Turn off the main water valve to your home, and take a look at your meter. If the reading changes after an hour, then you most likely have a leak in the pipes between your meter and your house.
  • Look for areas of discoloration on the walls or floor. If there’s a leak behind the wall, you may also notice that the drywall has become soft or slightly puffy.
  • Musty smells near drains, sewer lines and floors also indicate a likely water leak.

If you’re currently experiencing any of these symptoms, now’s the time to contact Snappy Service for prompt and decisive action.  In addition to repairing leaks and replacing old fixtures, we offer electronic water leak detection where we can pinpoint in hard-to-find locations, like inside your walls  And remember:  the earlier the detection, the less likely you are to incur structural damage and major water loss.  For leaking pipes or any plumbing need at all, Snappy Services will get it done with your satisfaction guaranteed.
