How to Conserve Water in Huntingburg and Huntington

How to Conserve Water in Huntingburg and Huntington

We recently saw a report claiming that California’s current drought conditions are the worst since the 16th century. Some dispute that claim.  But no one can dispute that the entire state is affected by the drought, and that 58% of California is undergoing “extreme drought” and Conserve water conditions.

Given that California’s population is just a tad under 39 million, it’s easy to think that one person can’t make much of a difference.  More to the point, you say, “I live in Indiana so what does the drought in California have to do with me?”Messmer Mechanical

Our answer to that?  “Everything!”  Because what’s happening right now in California should remind us that the earth’s eco system is ever so fragile, and that we do not have an infinite supply of natural resources.  In that vein, doesn’t it make sense to start conserving water now before conditions force us to ask?

If you agree, we urge you to start practicing these water-saving tips, and to share them with at least three people:
  • Don’t run your washing machine until you have a full load.  Or, if you just can’t wait, adjust the water level to the amount of clothes you’re washing; some newer models do this automatically.
  • When washing dishes by hand, fill the sink or a bin with water instead of running the faucet non-stop.  Once all the dishes are washed, then turn the water back on only long enough to rinse them.
  • Take care of that leaky faucet right away.  Otherwise, even a small leak can result in 1.5 gallons of wasted water per minute.
  • When taking a shower, place some kind of container in your tub or stall to catch the water that runs while you’re waiting for it to get hot.  There’s always something else you can use it for, like washing your kitchen floor or watering your plants.
  • By installing low-flow shower heads and faucet aerators, you can cut your home water consumption by up to 50%.  Now wouldn’t that be something to crow about!

That’s right, if you take positive action to conserve water at home, work, or anywhere else, you should let your friends, family, and the rest of the world know.  Because the more others are reminded, the sooner they’ll get the hint and start conserving water themselves.

In the meantime, contact Messmer Mechanical today or anytime if we can assist you in your water conservation efforts.
