Just One Dual-Flush Toilet Can Cut Your Annual Jasper or Celestine Home Water Bill by Nearly 17%

Even though we’re still years behind Europe, Australia, and other green-conscious countries around the world, green plumbing continues to make rapid strides in the U.S.

And nothing better illustrates that point than dual-flush toilets.  Dual-flush toilets, as the name implies, have two buttons vs. a single handle.  One button is for liquid waste only (half flush),  and the other for liquid and solid waste combined (full flush).

A full flush consumes only 1.02 gallons.  That’s truly amazing when you consider that a standard toilet use anywhere from 3-7 gallons per flush, depending on when it was built.  Okay, you might say, but “What about the low-flow toilets I’ve been hearing so much about?”  Well, those are great water savers, too, but dual-flush toilets out-save them, and by a considerable margin.

Let’s do the math.  Most low-flow toilets use 1.6 gallons per flush.  With a dual-flush toilet, a full flush uses 1.53 gallons while a half flush uses only 1.02 gallons. The cuts water usage by up to 68% over your older, standard toilet.

Of course the savings vary from person to person, but if you use the toilet an average of 5 times a day, you’ll save close to 600 gallons of water every year. For a family of four, that works out to a total savings of 2,400 gallons annually. And, since toilet usage typically accounts for roughly a quarter of your water bill, you can end up with a monthly savings of close to 17%.

Another benefit of dual-flush toilets is that most models have a larger trapway for removing waste than conventional toilets – which reduces the likelihood of a clog.

Finally, dual-flush toilets look great. They are sleek, modern, and European-looking, and they perfectly complement a high-end bathroom.
