Benefits of a Back-up Sump Pump

If your home has a basement, the risk of water damage is no doubt a cause for concern. Flooding and leaks are never expected but can be costly when they occur. However, with proper preventative measures, you can minimize the potential risk of water damage to your home and valuables.

Any home with a basement – especially in homes and neighborhoods prone to basement flooding – should have a main sump pump.  Its job is to jettison water as fast as it enters. There’s just one problem, though, if that’s your only line of defense.  Main sump pumps run on electricity. So, should the power shut off for any reason, water will find a home indoors since it has nowhere else to go.

But now, Messmer Mechanical has the answer: a back-up sump pump to pick up where your main pump leaves off. Here, we install both water- and battery-powered back up pumps.  Water-powered sump pump can drain up to 1,300 gallons of water per hour, while battery-powered models typically will run for 6-8 hours without recharging. With either type, the back-up pump will turn on as soon as the main pump shuts off, thus providing you added protection against basement flooding.
