Save Water While Showering in Jasper & Grand View

Taking a shower in Jasper may not be as water-efficient as you’ve thought, at least when you compare that to the amount of water it takes to fill your tub.Save Water While Showering

Here’s the math.  The average bath uses approximately 40 gallons of water. Older, inefficient showerheads can dump out up to 5.5 gallons per minute (gpm). At that rate, an eight minute shower exceeds the 40-gallon mark when it shouldn’t even be coming close.  Plus, with multiple people in a home taking at least one shower per day, those wasted gallons add up pretty fast.

To determine if it’s time for a replacement showerhead, grab a bucket marked with gallon by gallon indicator lines.  Turn the shower on and hold the bucket under the flow. Be sure to catch all of the water coming from the head and then count the number of seconds it takes to fill the bucket to the 1 gallon mark. If it is less than 20 seconds, then your showerhead is unnecessarily wasting water.

Installing a showerhead that uses less than 2.5 gpm will solve the problem of wasted water right away. Then, day after day, you’ll be saving money on your water bill and making a big contribution to the environment.

And while you have all kinds of low-flow showerhead options to choose from, there are essentially only two types:  aerating and laminar flow.  Aerating modes mix air and water to keep water consumption low and water pressure right where you like.  Laminar flow showerheads force water into small streams to accomplish the same dual goal.

Need a nice hot bath to wind down?  Go for it.  But before you take your next hot shower, go for a new low-flow showerhead.
