Holiday Gifts for Teachers in Pike & Spencer Counties

Some people are just hard to shop for. Like your mother-in-law who has very particular taste, or your brother, who seems to have everything. Or your child’s teacher who, let’s face it, has one of the toughest jobs out there – helping shape and prepare future generations for what’s to come.

So this holiday season, why not show your appreciation and get the teachers on your list something they’ll love, without breaking the bank. Here are just a few suggestions that are sure to be a hit.

• A gift card. It may sound like the easy way out, but what better way to say thanks and happy holidays than with a gift your child’s teacher can actually use? You can make it personal by selecting one to a store or restaurant he or she likes, or go safe with one to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, a prepaid Visa gift card, and the like.

• A day of pampering. If anyone could use a little R & R, it’s a teacher. Treat her (or him) to a facial, manicure, or pedicure. Room parents: this is a great one to present from the entire class.

• A refill of supplies. It’s no secret that most teachers end up spending their own hard-earned money on classroom supplies throughout the year. So give a little back by restocking paper, markers, crayons, and pencils.

• A heartfelt note or letter of gratitude. If money is tight this year, you can still show your appreciation by putting your feelings down on paper. And all it will cost you is a little time.

• Something hand-made by your child. At the end of the day teachers want to know that what they’re doing is making a difference in your child’s life. And there’s no better way to convey that than by having your child make something. How about decorating an empty, clean coffee can to use as a pencil or paintbrush holder? Or simply a handwritten and decorated holiday card? It doesn’t have to be complicated or time consuming to be special.

While you’re making that list, and checking it twice, don’t forget to include the school nurse.  Throughout the U.S., nurse to student ratios of 750 to 1 are the norm!  We all ask a lot of our school nurses, and this is a great time of year to say “thank you” in a simple yet personal way.
