How to Keep Mold off Your Shower Curtain in Jasper & Dubois County, IN

Whether you live in Jasper, Dubois County, or anywhere else in Southern Indiana, chances are you’ve grappled with black mold problems in your bathroom before.

It’s ugly, hard to get rid of, and hard to keep it away in the first place. But given the choice, doesn’t it make sense to put a little time and effort into mold prevention now so you can stop worrying about how to clean it? Of course it does.

Here at Messmer Mechanical, we went to straight to the source – our own customers – to find out what works best and, not surprisingly, we got quite a few different replies, including these:

  • Strange as it may sound, Turtle Max is a highly effective mold blocker. Buff it on your shower curtain, grout, and tiles just as you would your car.

  • Furniture polish is another surprising solution, or at least it was to us. But the more we thought about it, the more sense it made, as products like Turtle Wax and furnish polish Keep Mold off Your Shower Curtaincreate barriers, almost like invisible shields. And they are particularly potent in keeping black mold at bay. When using furniture polish, shake the can and then spray it directly onto a wash cloth or rag vs. directly on the shower curtain or tiles. Otherwise, enough of the product could slither its way to your floor or tub bottom to create a serious slipping hazard. As it is, bathroom accidents already account for 25% of emergency room visits, and the last thing we want to do is add to that statistic.

  • Ventilate your bathroom during and after taking a shower or doing anything else that causes steam. Once you leave the bathroom, keep the fan running and/or the window open (or both) for at least 5 to 10 minutes.

  • Once you exit the shower, stretch the curtain as wide as you can so it will dry faster and completely. Remember: black mold loves wet, warm places, so you want to deny it that type of breeding ground. You can take this a step further by drying your shower curtain with a hand towel.

Another good way to keep prevent black mold is to replace your shower curtain with one made of a woven synthetic material, one that doesn’t hold water and washes very well either by hand or in your washing machine.
