5 Great Bathroom Safety Upgrades

It’s a fact – about 25% of all hospital ER visits stem for bathroom-related injuries, especially slipping and falling.

• Comfort Height Toilet. Not counting the seat, a standard size toilet is 13” tall. For some, that poses a heightened risk of falling. Now, we can help prevent that by installing a comfort height toilet – they come in 17” and 19” models. Less space to cover in sitting and standing provides added safety.

• Touchless Faucets. Touchless faucets use motion sensor technology to initiate the flow of water. Once you move your hands away, the water stops. Touchless faucets also help stop the spread of germs.
• Anti-Scald Shower Valve. Anti-scald valves prevent burn injuries in the shower while the constant water temperature provides comfort and peace of mind. A consistent temperature – vs. a sudden spike of scalding water – also helps prevent heart attacks.
• Low-Entry Shower Stall. Even if it means replacing a tub, this is a “must have” for many homes with senior family members. Instead of a tub wall to climb over, there’s a small threshold for easy entry, and easy exit.
• Tub to Shower Conversion – If you have a bathroom where the tub never gets used, perhaps now is the time to replace it with a low-entry shower stall. Low-entry means there’s just a small threshold to step over to get in and out of the stall. Less distance, less chance of falling. Your new shower stall also can include a built-in bench seat, hand-held shower head, and grab bars both inside and outside the stall.
