We all have something we want to improve upon – an area of our life that could use a little work. Maybe you’d like to drop a few pounds, or get your family eating better. Perhaps you’re struggling to find the motivation to go back to school, or start a new career path. Or maybe you just wish you could manage your time a little better.
Well now’s a great time to dust of one or more of those goals and start putting them in action as your part in National Self-Improvement Month – and entire month dedicated to doing something to improve your life,
Be it physically, emotionally, or financially
- Here are a few tips to get you started on your self-improvement journey.
- Think about the areas in your life that you’d like to improve on, and group them into two categories: short-term and long-term.
- Choose one goal from each list that you can commit to tackling immediately. Don’t wait until next week, or after that big work assignment, etc.
- Do something today that will bring you closer to achieving these goals. For example, if you’re aiming for better physical health, lace up those sneakers and go for a walk or run, and make a plan to work exercise into your weekly routine.
- Set realistic (but challenging) expectations. If you’re dreaming of getting that degree but think you don’t have the time, start with one course per semester. While it’ll take a little longer, you’ll be that much closer to attaining it.
- Assess your progress and make changes as needed. Remember, if something isn’t working, it’s ok to fix it. Make sure that you’re setting yourself up for success, not failure.
