When you recall your most recent clogged drain problem, what specifically comes to mind? No doubt the worse the experience, the more unpleasant the memories. Including what it might have cost you to get it fixed.
But here’s the thing – if clogged drains are so exacerbating to begin with, doesn’t it make sense to do everything you can to prevent them? Of course it does. So, take it from us. And to help you do just that,
We’re pleased to present the following clogged drain prevention measures to help save you time, aggravation, and money:
- Place a strainer over kitchen and bathroom drains to prevent hair, pieces of soap, and other debris from slipping through. Clean the strainer as needed.
- Every one to two weeks remove sink and tub pop-up stoppers to rinse them off.
- Some tubs, showers, and basement floor drains have strainers that are screwed into the drain opening. You can easily remove them and reach down into the drain with a bent wire to clear out accumulated debris.
- Pour grease and other cooking oils into a coffee can or other container to dispose of with your regular trash.
- Flush your drain with cold water before, during, and after using your garbage disposal. Cold water helps prevent food particles and grease residue from clinging to the inside of your pipes.
- About once a month, use an organic drain cleaning liquid like Bio-Clean to break up any clogs in the making. These eco-friendly products won’t cause pipe erosion, either – unlike chemical drain cleaners.
Even if you’re diligent to the extreme, however, you can’t expect to prevent all clogged drain problems.
