How to Prepare for Summer Vacation

How to Prepare for Summer Vacation

Have your sights set on a stress-free summer vacation? If so, consider the following: if stress is involved, can you really call it a vacation?  Sure you can, but only to a point.

So, to help make your vacation as stress-free as possible, we present the following pre-vacation tips:
  • Keep your electric bill down by shutting off all lights or at least putting a few on a timer to give the appearance of someone being home.
  • Unplug as many appliances and electronics as practical to save even more.

  • Turn off your water supply if you’re planning to be away for more than a week to help prevent water leaks and save money on your water bill.
  • Shut down your water heater, once again, for the savings and to prevent damage from a leak in your hot water tank.
  • Leave a car in your driveway or ask a neighbor to park one of theirs.
  •  Another easy way to save some money on your water bill is by turning off the ice maker in your freezer.
  • Stop newspaper and mail delivery unless you have someone bringing them inside every day.
  • Clear your refrigerator of all perishable foods so you don’t come home to a living science project and the unpleasant odors that accompany it.
  • Don’t announce your travel plans on social media since you never know who’d watching or who might share that news.
  • If you keep a spare key in a secret location, it’s probably a good idea to bring it indoors during your absence.
  • Ask someone you trust to inspect the inside an outside of your home daily for signs of damage or suspicious activity.

If you come home anyway to an unexpected problem with your plumbing or AC system, contact Messmer Mechanical for fast response, guaranteed upfront price quotes, and dependable results…just like always.
