How to Keep Your Bathroom Smelling Fresh & Clean in Jasper and Pike County

How to Keep Your Bathroom Smelling Fresh & Clean in Jasper and Pike County

Unless you’re in the throes of potty training your toddler, discussing what goes on in the bathroom is often a less than socially appropriate conversation here in Jasper and neighboring communities. While custom cabinetry and imported tile can make a bathroom look like a relaxing oasis, they do nothing to combat the myriad of odors that often lurk in those damp quarters.Keep Your Bathroom Smelling Fresh & Clean

So, in an effort to “clear the air”, here are 4 easy ways to eliminate common bathroom odors, whether the offensive odor is temporary, or ongoing.
  1. For an instant and all-natural air freshener, dissolve 1 tsp. of baking soda in 2 cups of hot water. Pour the solution into a spray bottle and add 1 tsp. of fresh lemon juice. Baking soda absorbs and neutralizes odors and lemon juice will leave your bathroom smelling clean and fresh.
  2. For those most offensive – and unmistakable – bathroom odors, sometimes your best bet is to immediately replace one odor with one that’s more pleasant and recognizable. Keep a box of matches in a cabinet and, when needed, light two at once and let them burn for 10 seconds. Blow them out and swirl the smoke around the toilet.
  3. Place several cotton balls in a decorative dish and add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to act as an on-going air freshener. While there are no hard and fast rules for which oils to use, light floral and citrus tend to be more pleasant scents in a bathroom environment over musky, vanilla, or herb alternatives.
  4. For odors caused by mold and mildew, wash your bathroom regularly – at least once a week. Don’t forget to clean under your hair and body care products as those are favorite mold hiding places. Wash your towels and bath mats regularly and, if you have a shower curtain, leave it spread across the rod to allow it to dry after a shower.

There’s a lot of stuff that goes inside such a relatively small space, isn’t there?  And that includes the potential for all kinds of plumbing mishaps.  If your bathroom plumbing is backing up now or anytime, count on the professionals at Messmer Mechanical to answer the call:  24/7 for your plumbing emergencies.
